HSA (health savings account)

A tax-advantaged account available only alongside a high-deductible health plan. Money goes in pre-tax, grows untaxed, and comes out untaxed when spent on medical costs — the only triple-tax-free account in the tax code. The 2026 limits are $4,400 for self-only coverage and $8,750 for family coverage, plus $1,000 at 55 or older.

For your first $100: If you have one through work, it sits high in the order — after the match in most published versions. Your first $100 here does double duty: health money now, investment account later.
