Portfolio

Everything you hold across all your accounts, counted together — the 401(k), the IRA, the stray brokerage account, the cash. Fund choices are made inside accounts, but risk is felt at the portfolio level: three accounts each holding 'a fund' can still be one bet if all three funds hold the same things.

For your first $100: With your first $100, your portfolio is a seed, not a garden. The word matters later, when accounts multiply and you need one view of all of it.
